Bring your focus to the ancient hocus pocus religious teachings that has been bringing complexities through a subtle approach by linking sacrifice too much to the ideal nature of women . A clear example is Satipratha system, where an entire section of women had been manipulated by rewarding them with qualified Goddess status which was made possible only through “Sacrifice of life”. Though it is recorded as a voluntary attempt , there was this societal pressure on women(like forcing into present marital system)not to think separately from her ‘owner ‘ on his death. It is so painful that we need to fight against the wrong emulations done by our ancestors ,disregarding the the negative circumstances by giving up on themselves allowing them to be domesticated and confined to a limited space. Nefarious demands on sacrifices from woman were used by society to humiliate women by associating it with her morality. The omissions about women’s needs and rights from religion may seem like an inadvertent omission, which in reality is a propaganda.
This kind of notion from society and families about sacrifice should be carefully overlooked when you are taught or advised by anyone to sacrifice for your household and family or in any area of life. In order to tackle this dilemma, you can start the basic approach by questioning whenever you are treated as second class citizen or moving away from the toxic un serving environment. Sacrifice is often sugarcoated and glorified with selfless worship label when in reality you are treated as a mere slave who do all the domestic chores ,compromising your needs and dreams .
Sacrifice is costly with no return policy. Compromise is costly but with return policy. Usually the compromises in marriage go equivalent to a sacrifice if you are involved with an unempathetic and disrespectful partner . Don't hesitate to ask in return, if you are coming across the word Compromise. Sacrifice is an outdated low self esteem theory .
